Peppermint Stick has been such a blessing to us. In 2005 our daughter Adrianna (2yrs old) started attending Peppermint Stick. She was very shy and quiet. Every day was fun and exciting. They would read with them, do crafts, play outside and have themed days! Adrianna loved it, came out of her shell, and couldn’t wait to go to school! Every morning Mr. Newman, Mrs. Cindy and all the other teachers were so very nice and sincerely cared about how Adrianna was doing and also how our family was doing. We developed a lasting friendship with them! Adrianna went to elementary school in 2008 but we still keep in contact with Peppermint Stick. We attended the 30th anniversary celebration. So many wonderful people came that had attended Peppermint Stick even years back and were now in their 20’s. WOW amazing! I thank God for the opportunity Adrianna had in being able to learn and grow at Peppermint Stick preschool! She is 11yrs old now and still talks about everything she did at Peppermint Stick!
I have five year old twins that have been going to Peppermint stick since they were two years old. Peppermint stick is more than just a preschool. It is a home. The love and compassion that the teachers show my children and our family is something that will carry on for a lifetime. They have learned so much that going to kindergarten has been a breeze. We will forever be grateful for the teachers at Peppermint Stick Preschool.
10 years ago I was blessed with one of my first and favorite jobs at Peppermint Stick Preschool. I had never felt so welcomed and comfortable from the moment I walked in the door. I had spent time in other childcare centers but this one was different. The positive language used, prayers said at meal time, and the teamwork among the staff was incredible. I would later learn things ran so smoothly because this wasn't just a work place, it was a family.
Mr. Newman and Cindy Newman are some of the kindest, most generous, loving people I have ever known. Their staff at the preschool always felt appreciated and the children who attended are very well cared for. They built life long relationships with countless people who have come into their preschool. Both Mr. Newman and Cindy are very involved in the activities of the preschool such as lesson planning, teaching and reading, singing songs, playing outside or going to the park, or going on field trips. Communication with their kids, teachers, and parents is exceptional. I am grateful that after my time employed at Peppermint Stick, I have been able to maintain my friendship with the Newmans as well as the members, past and present, of the preschool.
It brings me much joy, that now as a mother I am able to send my daughter to this amazing preschool. I know that she is being well cared for and I know that she is learning what she needs to know in preparation for school. It's important for me to feel comfortable leaving my child and I have no doubt that she is safe and loved at Peppermint Stick.
My two older children and I were welcomed into the Peppermint Stick family in 1999. I was a single mother putting myself through college. I had no family nearby, and was new to the neighborhood. My son was starting Kindergarten at Zia Elementary, and I needed a loving daycare for him and my daughter, who was 4. I was blessed and fortunate to find Peppermint Stick and the Newman’s.
Peppermint Stick became a home away from home for my two children. Mr. Newman and Miss Cindy (as they are called by the children) became positive influences for my children. They felt safe, and were safe at Peppermint Stick. They were always treated in a loving manner. In 2001, at the age of 8, my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It was a very traumatic experience and it changed our lives. When he was ready to go back to school and daycare, Mr. Newman sat with me and listened as I explained everything that my son needed. Taking care of a child with Type 1 Diabetes is no easy task. The whole Peppermint Stick staff learned what my son needed and accepted the added care necessary for a child with Type 1 Diabetes. I took great comfort in knowing my son had a childcare provider who was willing to learn and willing to care for him, even though it got much more difficult with this diagnosis. My children continued to go to Peppermint Stick for many years. Even after we moved out of the neighborhood, I kept them at Peppermint Stick. Peppermint Stick was not near our home, and not on my way to work. But knowing my children were well cared for made it worth the extra time and driving.
More recently, my youngest daughter attended Peppermint Stick during the summer. The before/after school program at her school, which also provides care during the summer, was closed for a couple weeks before school started. My and my husband’s first thought was Peppermint Stick. There was no doubt in our minds that our daughter would be safe and cared for with the Peppermint Stick staff.
My son is now 21and oldest daughter is 19. Although they stopped attending Peppermint Stick long ago, they have frequently gone back to visit Mr. Newman and Miss Cindy. Whenever they are home from college, one of their first places to visit is Peppermint Stick. The Newman's and the Peppermint Stick family have been a part of our lives since 1999, and they will be a part of our lives forever.
Our three boys have been going to Peppermint Stick Preschool since before they started Elementary School. We love that this is a family oriented Christian preschool and knowing our boys will be well cared for and loved. Mr. Newman, Cindy and all the teachers offer an amazing learning environment that is clean, organized, safe and fun for kids of all ages.

My family has been so blessed to be a part of Peppermint Stick Preschool. My kids are always happy to go to Peppermint. Mr. Newman, Ms. Cindy and the teachers not only teach the children to be good people but provide excellent examples for my kids to follow. My children have learned so much. Sending my children to Peppermint keeps them happy, healthy and provides them a wonderful place to grow.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Mr. Newman, Ms. Cindy, and the Peppermint Stick Staff! Both of my children have attended Peppermint Stick Preschool as well as participated in their after-school and summer programs. I have referred other parents who have been equally impressed with, and appreciative of, the care and education their children receive. When I was first looking for daycare for my daughter (12 years ago) we visited 3 preschools prior to visiting Peppermint Stick. My daughter would not get down from my arms at any of the other school. Once we got to Peppermint Stick, she wiggled in my arms and couldn’t wait to get down—it was then that we knew we were in the right place! Since then, my now 7 year old son and 7 year old niece have attended Peppermint Stick and we remain part of the Peppermint Stick Family!
I truly cannot say enough good about my experience with Peppermint Stick preschool, but I will try… In 1986 I was hired on as an afternoon childcare assistant, which led into a full-time preschool teacher position for quite a few years. In 1999 the time came to put my own children into daycare. I knew exactly where they needed to be placed. I was going through a divorce and needed to go back to work and wanted my children in a loving, christian-based center with positive role models while I was away from them. The Newman's center their daycare around a family/home atmosphere which is very different for many other daycares in town. I wanted my kids to feel as close to home as possible. My children spent pre-k through mid-school along with many other children. No one wanted to leave Peppermint Stick, but unfortunately they can't stay forever. But my daughter decided to find away around that. She is now 18 years old and has been hired on as a preschool teacher! So many alumni kids have visited and applied for positions throughout the years, because not only is the daycare one in a million, so are the Newman's! First hand, I can say without a doubt, the Newman's mission in life is to share their unconditional love, commitment to seeing each child succeed and flourish, but most importantly to make every child feel and know that they are the best gift that God has put on this earth! Children only get to be young and carefree for so long, they belong in an environment that exceeds those expectations!
Sincerely, Shannon D.
Looking for preschool that I felt was qualified to take care of my daughter was a very stressful situation. I felt so relieved when I found Peppermint Stick! As my daughter explored the school, I knew then that these people were the best choice! I never worried about my kids being safe, because I knew they were. From there, our relationships grew to being a family! They truly love these kids! And we love them.
